The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, and in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and global health partners, has embarked on a comprehensive nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at creating awareness and ensuring widespread vaccination against measles and rubella. Given the devastating impact of these diseases on infants and young children, we have, here in Imo State, incorporated this sensitization exercise with additional awareness on HPV and tuberculosis immunization. This was formally launched today in Owerri, to draw attention to these deadly yet preventable diseases.
I extend my profound appreciation to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Senator (Dr.) Oluremi Tinubu, CON, whose passion and commitment to the health and well-being of our children inspired this national initiative. Special thanks to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Primary Health, Health Insurance and Social Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Vivian Chioma Egu; the Executive Secretary of the Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria-Joannes Uzoma, and their dedicated teams. I also appreciate the female Chairpersons and wives of LGA Chairmen, who are expected to cascade this sensitization campaign to their respective LGAs.
My gratitude also goes to Dr. Uche Ewelike of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA); the traditional rulers represented by HRH Eze Lucky Okoro, PhD, Secretary of the Imo Council of Traditional Rulers; Corona Management Systems, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other development partners for their invaluable partnership and contributions to the success of this sensitization initiative in our State.
