To address the critical public health need for expanded vaccination programs in Imo State, the Immunization State Oversight Committee (Immunization Task Force) was officially inaugurated today. The event, held in my office, formally established the committee with the primary aim of enhancing vaccine accessibility, monitoring immunization rates, and implementing strategic interventions to achieve comprehensive vaccination coverage across the 27 LGAs of the State.
Chaired by myself, the committee includes: Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu, Honourable Commissioner for Health, Social Services, and Health Insurance, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria-Joaness Uzoma, Executive Secretary, Imo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Uchechukwu Odom, Director of Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Kingsley Akakuru, Director of Logistics and Essential Drugs, Dr. Okoroma Chibuzo, State Immunization Officer, Mrs. Onyejeme Calista, Director of Primary Healthcare Coordinators, Mr. Kalu Ugonna, Assistant State Immunization Officer, Mrs. Chinwe Abanobi, Social Mobilization Officer, Mrs. Olodia Dorcas Joel, Program Assistant (Corona Management Systems), representing partners, Dr. Watzingi William Bassey, WHO State Coordinator, HRH Eze Lucky Okoro PhD, Secretary, Imo Council of Traditional Rulers, Mrs. Okere Bibian, Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Health.
In my remarks at the inauguration, I emphasized the committee’s vital role and urged members to develop innovative strategies to overcome barriers to vaccination, particularly in remote parts of the State. This initiative underscores our administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable and comprehensive immunization coverage for every citizen.
