Yesterday, April 29, 2025, I joined the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, at the official commissioning and handover of an IT Community Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State. The centre was donated to the Oladipo Alayande School of Science, Okebola, Ibadan.
The IT Community Centre, a collaborative effort between Renewed Hope Initiative and NITDA Nigeria is the third to be commissioned by the First Lady in Nigeria. Other Digital Economy Centres, fully equipped with computers and ICT materials, have already been established in six locations: Cross River, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Niger, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory. Ten (10) additional centres in Abia, Delta, Edo, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara will be ready for commissioning soon.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady described the centre as another milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and empower more women and youths. This aligns with a key priority of the Renewed Hope Agenda; to accelerate economic diversification through industrialization and digitalization. She also commended the collaboration with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for its significant contributions toward closing the digital gap nationwide.
Earlier, during a meeting with the State’s Traditional Rulers Council, held before the commissioning, the First Lady called for their support in eliminating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis. She emphasized the harmful impact of inadequate awareness about HIV/AIDS among young people and urged the royal fathers to intensify efforts in promoting prevention and management of these life-threatening diseases. #RenewedHopeInitiative
